Code of Conduct - Child Friendly

In November 2019, Body Safety Australia and the children from Brunswick North West Primary school teamed up to co-design a child friendly ‘Code of Conduct’ that aims to assist adults in understanding how they can best support children in making them feel safe. We have included this here so that our Organisational Code of Conduct is accessible for children, and to also provide adults and children a foundation for building something similar with their own families.

Treat all people with respect.

Listen and act if someone says a child is being hurt.

Make sure that nobody is treated unfairly because they are: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, people from countries other than Australia, people who speak languages other than English at home, people with a disability, or because of their gender.

Recognise that all families and cultures are different and that people should get to be who they are, and get to do the things that are important to their culture at school.

Make sure that children with disabilities are included in all activities and are able to be themselves at school.

Make sure that if a child is being hurt physically or emotionally, other students and adults get help for that child.

Teachers and other adults should be friendly and caring but not try to be a child’s ‘best friend’.

Be kind to children, families and adults.

Adults working with children should not talk to students using technology unless it’s to do with school work or events or if they are family.

Don’t talk photos or videos of children without consent of a parent/guardians and the children.

Don’t share photos or videos of children without consent of a parent/guardians and the children.

Have events, books and activities that help celebrate all the different children and families.

Make sure you don’t ignore if someone is unsafe or unhappy.

Trust children’s independence.

Encourage children to take risks so they can learn and mature into human beings who know how to survive.

We would like to thank the children of Brunswick North West Primary School who assisted with the development of our Code of Conduct
