Jay

Jay Jones is a proud queer, trans and autistic Senior Educator working at the intersection of eSafety, gender equity and child protection. Their work is grounded in lived experience, and driven by a commitment to safety, dignity and justice for whole communities.
Jay leads program development with Body Safety Australia, co-designing with children and drawing on the knowledge of our founding youth advisory council to develop programs that are not only evidence-based, but speak directly to the on and offline experiences and needs of young people. They specialise in adapting programs to respond to the direct and diverse needs of the communities we work with. Some days that might look like ensuring disability inclusion in the classroom, overcoming resistance to queer inclusive sex ed or responding to peer-on-peer sexual violence in schools. At the heart of this work is Jays desire for all children to feel safe, seen and valued in our programs.
Jay is Body Safety Australia’s eSafety specialist with expertise in tech-facilitated violence, child sexual abuse material, sextortion and online grooming. Jay currently coordinates our Image-Based Autonomy project, capturing young people’s experiences of image taking, sharing, editing to understand the use of images and deepfake tech to enact gender-based and sexual violence. Their hope for this work is to promote a persons right to their image as an enduring social norm.
Outside of their work in the classroom, Jay also delivers professional development for teachers to empower all those charged with safeguarding children. Jay has specialised knowledge working with LGBTQIA+ communities and in supporting gender equitable and trans inclusive education practice.
Jay is enthusiastically committed to their ongoing and evolving practice extending unconditional positive regard to all children and promoting childhoods truly free from violence.
