Sharon Rogers comes to BSA with 40 years of experience across the early childhood education and care sector. Starting her career in Melbourne as a kindergarten teacher, she has held leadership roles in pre-prep, preschools and long-day care settings and in nursery and infant classes in London.
Sharon’s advocacy for children is underpinned by her unwavering belief in the rights of children as world citizens, in their right to play and learn in safe, inclusive and respectful environments, in their right to feel and express joy, curiosity and creativity and in their right to have agency over their bodies and personal choices.
Sharon uses the visual arts as a connecter to people, supporting children and teachers to explore, experiment, create and collaborate with various materials – for fun, for wellbeing and for learning. She is interested in the arts as a tool to support trauma-informed practice and in the healing it can offer. Sharon has worked with clay, mosaic, textiles, wire, natural and recycled materials in various projects with early years and primary school children.
Sharon has worked with the Department of Education as a Kindergarten Improvement Advisor, with Early Learning Association Australia as a Senior Advisor and has served on various committees and councils, including a term on the Board of the Victorian Institute of Teaching. Sharon sees herself as a lifelong learner and all past roles and partnerships have helped her build expertise, empathy, and practical skills that she brings to her presenting and facilitation of BSA programs.
Out of work, Sharon enjoys time with her family and friends, sharing food and music, seeing films, attending concerts, finding treasures and plants at markets, collecting items in nature for art projects and planning the next travel destination.
